Jasmine “Jazzi” Johnson is a full-time freelance pop culture writer and editor. At 27-years-old, the over-opinionated music maven, cultural and political critic also practices expression as a multi-media artist. Nothing brings her more joy (and/or passion) than talking about all things new, buzzing, controversial, and scandalous. She’s also a graduate of The New School for Liberal Arts c/o 2011. Blame that on everything else.

This website is catered to her writing, editorial, podcasting, and blog work available online.  All material categorized under “Unpublished” [Coming Soon] are original material, unavailable elsewhere online or in print; All other work is also originally written material, published on the associated sites in which they are linked; solely and wholly written and (mostly) edited by Jasmine “Jazzi” Johnson herself.

Jazzi began writing at the age of 6.  Beginning with short stories, she progressed to stage plays, screen plays, poetry, spoken word, song, and journalism.  While motivated by her love for music, entertainment, news, and activism, her ultimate goal in this world is to be loved, spread love, and attract love.  Aiming to teach, to learn, to grow, and to inspire through her writing– in each and every form in which she chooses– she makes sure it has her voice and contains a purpose, even if the purpose is a laugh or a smile.  Throughout her years, and especially following college graduation in 2011, she’s grown substantially in her written work, some of which she has chosen to share with you through this medium.

As a proud alum of New School University c/o 2011, a member and songwriter of ASCAP PRO, a dedicated journalist and daily blogger, this site will showcase elements of her ONLINE presence from 2009 to the present.  Included in this work is her previous personal blog, Bubble Flavor; Intermediate Journalism Class Writing for Metrosection; Advanced Journalism Writing, mostly for The New York Times; BET’s Centric Television Online; MSNBC and NBC News’ The Grio; Karen Civil’s Lifestyle Website, Live Civil; and Rap Genius.

  1. Good evening, my name is Eric Cox and I’m preparing to embark upon on my senior year as an undergraduate in Broadcast Journalism at the University of Illinois. I’m contacting you at this time to tell you how much I admire your work and also to inquire
about if and how I could go about become a writer for LivingCivil.com. Like you, I’ve been writing since a very young age, although not quite as young as 6, and I would really like to offer my abilities to the website as well as allow the medium to help me hone my craft. Through this experience, I aim to not only build up an impressive portfolio such as yours, but also entertain and inform whatever audience is willing to read my work. Thanks for your time and attention throughout this e-mail, I hope to hear from you soon.

P.S. I hope that you and your loved ones have had an amazing Memorial Day!

    1. Hello Eric,

I realize I’m super late on this so, I apologize, I rarely have the time to even check my site anymore (but I’m hoping to have it revamped soon!). If you can send me a link to your work and your email address, I’d be glad to try to set something up for you. Thank you so much for your support and feedbck. I am grateful that you enjoy my work, it means a lot to me.
